26 Things I’d Do, If Fear Didn’t Hold Me

You’ve heard that question before, what would you do if you weren’t afraid?

Have you ever answered this question? Or were you afraid to? Okay, so that was kind of a ‘funny’, but it’s actually a truth for me. I’ve been afraid to answer this question in the past, because somehow, when I start making the list, I end up feeling like some kind of failure for not doing so many things based on this emotion.

So here I go, facing my fear of answering the question about fear and providing an incomplete, yet compelling (compelling to me anyway) list.

If fear didn’t hold me, I’d:

  1. Say No.
  2. Go for a job, even if I didn’t feel like I was qualified
  3. Travel to another country, alone
  4. Have another baby
  5. Take a yoga class
  6. Go sky diving
  7. Walk all the way out on the Sky Walk over the Grand Canyon
  8. Go on a REALLY big roller coaster with my son
  9. Learn how to snowboard
  10. Tell someone off, with no concern about whether or not they’ll like me after
  11. Major in Dance in college
  12. Tell the truth
  13. Go on more dates (ahem, when I was younger and unattached. duh.)
  14. Raise my hand
  15. Ask for a raise
  16. Ask for the job
  17. Not be afraid to speak my mind
  18. Learn how to surf
  19. Go on a hot air balloon ride
  20. Ask for help
  21. Do Karaoke
  22. Audition for dance performances
  23. Ask the question
  24. Wear it anyway
  25. Say it anyway
  26. Do it anyway

You know what’s interesting? My fear of being misunderstood is making me want to explain and give you context for each one of the fears I listed. But guess what? I’M NOT GOING TO. NO I’M NOT. I’m going to just go ahead and face that fear head on. Right. this. very. minute. And not provide any context. None. So you can wonder all you want why I listed something. And perhaps you don’t care at all. In reality, it doesn’t matter, does it. Because I can’t control what you think anyway…which is the basis of so many of our fears, am I right?

Sooooo…I’m just going to end it right here. Before I ‘accidentally’ tell you why I listed Tell the Truth as a fear. Because, OMG, all the things you could be thinking RIGHT NOW.

Alright, let’s turn this spotlight from me to you, shall we?

What’s on your list? What would you do, if fear didn’t hold you?

    Ha ha , that’s a great list!
You still have time for some of those.
    I will ponder mine now!
Way to get us thinking !

I’m not sure I will EVER do the sky diving one…makes me breathe faster just thinking about it!

What a great list. There are definitely some that would be on my list, too. I did actually major in dance the first time around in college. Then got married. Wish I had kept it up. xo Laura

Thanks for stopping by Laura! I will try to push myself through some of these. Others…not so much. LOL!

Oh how your list mirrors what mine would be in so many ways, if I were brave enough to make one. I agree with your Mom – there is still time to tackle some of them!

It’s interesting to me how some of those things seem like they’d be “no big deal” or “quickies” and some of them would require tremendous commitment (cough cough baby). It took me FOREVER to finally start saying no and “say it anyway” and “do it anyway”. I hope that you find the strength to conquer some of your fears and get a few things on this list checked off. It feels SO DANG GOOD! xo

What a terrific and thought-provoking list. You’ve inspired me to write my own!
