Hot Mamas, Manifestos and Me – #38

July 11, 2012 By: Heather

So here’s the thing.  I knew setting the goal of writing 40 posts in 40 days, on my way to 40 would be tough.  It takes discipline and rigor, creativity and dedication.  Letting go of perfection…and in my case…staying up late.   It. Is. Hard.  And I’m only on day three!

Exhaustion set in from long days and short nights and the creative juices just weren’t flowing.  After an hour of sitting here, mulling around with some different ideas but gaining little traction, I thought I’d check my email.  I received an email from Hot Mama, the clothing retailer. Hopeful for a coupon or some fashion inspiration, I quickly opened it and instead found their new manifesto.  Yes, Hot Mama has a manifesto.  And IMHO, it is fabulous.  Take a moment and read it here:  http://hosted.verticalresponse.com/439393/128f89d174/1716500785/12ab65833f/

Some of the pieces from the manifesto that resonate the most with me are:

  • Pursue your passions
  • Remember your dreams
  • Give yourself a time out
  • Your children are watching you, looking up to you, learning about self-worth from you

This is why I write.  This is why I set the ’40 days to 40′ goal for myself.  To do something for me.  About me.

It is hard to find the time as a mom to pursue your passions and remember your dreams (you know, the ones you had before kids), but you have to make the time.  I know it is incredibly cliche to say, and tremendously difficult to do, however it is true.  You MUST make time.

I’ve had a passion for writing and a dream to publish a book for years now.  But I simply couldn’t find the time to put into it.  I am now making the time.  And it is never too late.  This is only my third day into pursuing my passion and remembering my dreams, but I’m so glad I’m doing it.  And doing it for me.

What are you doing to pursue your passions and remember your dreams?  Are you making the time?  If not, you should.  You need to.  And when you start making excuses as to why you can’t…remember the last bullet point mentioned above:

Your children are watching you, looking up to you, learning about self-worth from you.

You are worth it.
