What. A. Day. What a GREAT day! Today was Noah’s birthday party – and more memories were made! On Monday, he’ll be into the double digits, but today was his party with family and friends.
It has been a long and tiring week heading up to it. Planning, cleaning, putting together party favors, etc. Since Noah didn’t have a party last year, I wanted it to be extra special for him this year. He invited a slew of friends and we threw a pool party in the back yard.
He was happier than I have seen him in a long time. And that filled my heart with joy. He was surrounded by many that love him, doing what he loves to do. His happiness was palpable in his face; his eyes sparkled and his grin was from ear to ear. He has had an incredibly difficult journey over the last year. One that almost broke his spirit (more on that another time). And to see him so content is a true blessing. And one I’m continuing to give thanks for.
Later, after the party, we were eating dinner and Noah looked up from his hamburger and says, “I love you guys”. He was full of appreciation and wonder from the amazing day – and you could tell his heart was full.
This is what I hope for my little boy as he grows into a young man. That every year, he finds, seeks, and holds onto those things that fill his heart, just like he did today.
A lesson we should all practice a little bit more.
