Another day in NYC, another day at BlogHer. The vast majority of the day was spent indoors in meetings, workshops and in the Expo hall connecting with bloggers. These conferences are fun and engaging, but totally and completely exhausting. To help the bloggers have some fun and enjoy a night out, BlogHer has several ‘official’ parties.
One of which is named Sparklecorn. Yep. Sparklecorn. Think glowsticks and glow necklaces, sequins, glitter and unicorns. Yes, unicorns. I don’t know the history of this party or why it is called what it is. But it is a GIANT party. One that many look forward to.
We are typically just too darn tired to attend the parties at night. I know. Lame. But after being on your feet all day and engaging in conversation with 4,000 people – well – the last thing you feel like doing in getting your dance on. This year, we said we would at least attend two of the parties. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Tonight’s party was Sparklecorn. I really wanted to check it out. I mean, hello??? You see the name of my blog. You know I love to dance. And you know I love sparkle, because who doesn’t? But, I am – freaking exhausted. My feet are swollen, my back aches and wah, wah, wah.
Somehow I convinced my two sisters from other misters to go to the parties with me. Begrudgingly they agreed. I think because I convinced them that if they go, they will get to see a real unicorn. And unicorns, as we know, are magical.
Enter Sparklecorn. We could hear the music thumping as we rode the escalator up to the ballroom. Round the corner and boom. Marky Marky and the Funky Bunch playing in the room. Glow necklaces galore. And…a unicorn. See that rainbow looking thing behind us girls? That my friends, is a unicorn cake. Yes. It is.
See? What if they wouldn’t have come. They would’ve missed a freaking unicorn. What a shame that would’ve been. When is the last time you got to see a unicorn? See. You’re jealous.
In all fairness, while it was a bit kooky, it was a lot fun. For example, there were cardboard cutouts of Darth Vader and C3PO and R2-D2 with glow necklaces on – but I dug it – because Star Wars is one of my first loves. We stayed for a few minutes…long enough to hear songs like Push It, but in the end – we just needed to call it a day.
We have another early and long day tomorrow, so off to bed I go. The few minutes we were at Sparklecorn worth it. Tomorrow’s party? CheeseburgHer. Not sure how long we are going to last at that, but hopefully we’ll at least make an appearance. After we hit up Time’s Square, get some NY style pizza, and make it over to Tory Burch. But, we must find a way. We can sleep some other time, right? Right.
Happy to be here. Life. Is. Grand.
