That’s it. London 2o12 has commenced. What a great couple weeks it was, watching so many dedicated and determined athletes competing in world games. Showing us what drive, determination and talent can become.
Even more inspiring was seeing the impact women made on the games this year. Did you know that:
- For the first time ever, every country represented in the Olympics had at least one woman on their team
- For the first time ever, women outnumbered men on the U.S. team
- Of the 104 medals won by the U.S., 58 of them were won by women
- If U.S. women were a country by themselves, they’d be third in the medal count
- For the first year ever, women’s boxing was a part of the Olympics
Watching women become more involved, and more recognized by the world, as athletes is inspiring. The 1996 Gold medal winning, U.S. women’s soccer team is credited with a surge in young girls taking up soccer. I wonder what sport will see a surge after this year’s Olympics?
Watching the Olympics continues to be a great reminder to aspire for greatness – in whatever you choose. Whether it be sport or the arts and everything in between, believe you can follow that which you are most passionate about and make your dreams come true.
The only thing stopping you, is you.
