The boy is on a roll. A couple of days ago, he inspired me to write a post about taking a leap of faith. Yesterday, he reminded me of the importance of seeking to understand and not passing judgment. Today? Well, let’s just say, the lesson today didn’t quite have the same depth to it.
So here’s the deal. I was sitting at the kitchen table working, Noah was quietly sitting at the kitchen island eating. I’m typing away on my computer when he suddenly says, “If I was a girl, I might just fondle my boobs all day”.
Whaaaaaaat? I was mortified and stifling laughter all at once. So I feigned my appalled parental face, complete with stink eye, lowered my voice and said, “Noah Petri. Stop. It. That is sooo inappropriate! Why did you say that? What were you thinking?!”
Looking at me with a blank stare, he shrugged his shoulders and said, “I don’t know”.
I’m in trouble. Pre-teen in full effect. Seriously. Where does he get this stuff? I don’t believe ‘fondle’ is a word that many ten year old kids use. Boobs on the other hand…well, he probably uses that more than I care to know.
Sigh. I think the next few years are going to be interesting. And challenging.
I’m not sure there was any lesson learned today, other than I never know what this kid will say next.
Whatever it is, it will be entertaining.
