Enough of the sad posts for a few days, huh? The reality is, we have good days and bad days around here. Hell, sometimes it’s actually broken down into good moments and bad moments. Just depends. In any case, I hold on to each of them and try to do what I can to squeeze every last bit of joy out of the good moments and days. Any extra goodness that comes along, I just place in my reserve tank for the bad days. Just in case.
Thankfully, this evening was a string of many good moments. These are my favorite kind of evenings. Duh.
First win of the night that put a smile on our faces – no homework! WOOP! I seriously hate homework. I hate it more as a parent, than when I had to do it myself as a student. Who needs wine, when you don’t have homework?! Wait. We just need less wine, when we don’t have homework. <— Insert edit: ‘We’ in this scenario refers to the adults. Not the adult and the child. Because that would just be plain bad parenting.–>Edit over.
Second win of the night – nobody pissed my boy off. This seems fairly obvious, right? Pissed off boy, equals pissed off mama…which equals pissed off evening. Whew…thank goodness for everyone just getting along.
Third win of the night – I gave the okay for N to play Minecraft. For an entire hour. Uninterrupted. Who’s the coolest mom ever -*points at self*- this mom. Little does he know, this is as much of a gift to me as it is for him. I was able to sneak some reading time in – between the dishes, laundry and dinner, of course. Oh – and by dinner, I mean eating my dinner from the Culver’s drive thru.
Fourth win of the night – it was warm enough to swim. This might have just saved the whole damn week. The boy was stoked. Yes, stoked. Like, cannonball stoked.
Fifth win of the night – he knows how to sweet talk his mother. Here he is, just enjoying some time in the pool, when he says, “Mommy, I like your hair like that!”
Me: “Like what? In a pony tail?”
N: “Yeah. With your glasses on and the pony tail. You look the cutest that way. You look like a modern mom.”
Say it together…AWWWW. Adorbs, right?
But I’m pretty sure those goggles obscured his vision. In any case, it was a pretty good night. Hey, what do you think he means by ‘modern mom’?
Do you think it was a compliment?
Chris says
That’s a good night!! :-).
And I’m with you on the homework gig! It’s the first thing I ask the kids when I pick them up, and when my youngest says no homework I do a little dance inside!
