You guys…what a day. I’m a bit vulnerable and a lot exhausted. With emotions bubbling at the edge. Our evening was a bit of a tough one for several reasons. And I don’t have it in me today to spend the time I usually do writing and editing, and editing and rewriting. And writing some more.
But I’ve got this message bursting from my heart that I need to share and so I’m going to share it. And it may not be poetic or flowing, but it will BE. Today, I read a post that hit me hard. And it did so, because we live it in this house. ALL the days, we live it. It’s called Dear Parent: About THAT kid… I beg you, parents, teachers, HUMAN BEINGS, read it. It will leave you richer, and kinder, more compassionate and hit you right in that organ that beats every moment of your life. In fact, I’ve gone back to reread it a few times…and guess what…sometimes the link is broken, because I think we’re breaking her site. Because her message needs to be heard so MUCH in this world, that we are crashing her page. What does this tell you?
It tells me this world needs more compassion. It tells me that mommas of THAT kid, need our love, not our judgment. And so then this.
This is to the Mamas.
This is to the Mamas of THAT kid. This is to the MAMAS that get the side glances and the scowls. This is to the Mamas that feel the stares at her back and the whispers in her ears. This is to the Mamas who hate conferences and meeting new teachers. This is to the Mamas who have to start every introduction as, “Hi, I’m THAT kid’s mom. He has (fill in the blank).” This is to the Mamas who are so tired of watching their children be misunderstood. This is to the Mamas who feel judged. This is to the Mamas who feel frustrated, scared, angry, worried, blamed, talked about, sneered at, criticized, sad, pissed off, exhausted, worn out, speechless, empty, too emotional, not good enough. ALONE.
MAMAS, YOU ARE ENOUGH.
MAMAS, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
There is an army of us mama warriors, standing along side of you. That is who we are.
MAMAS, WE ARE WARRIORS.
And we don’t have to do this alone. YOU don’t have to do this alone. And so when you’re so tired of fighting the fight, we are there to fight it with you. When you are curled in a ball crying for mercy, we are there with you.
Because for all the other Mamas, Teachers, Dads, Coaches, Leaders, Care Providers, Children and others who judge our children and don’t understand our children, there are TEN MORE WHO DO. At least. This post that Miss Night wrote is proof. The response to her post IS PROOF. This many of us sharing and commenting on her post IS PROOF.
So Mama Warriors of THAT child. Hold hands, because WE ARE NOT ALONE.
