The very first line I highlighted in the book, Breaking Busy, is this, “I think as women we’ve convinced ourselves that being busy is a badge of honor.” And the last line I highlighted in the book, “God showed us how much we are worth by giving us everything: grace, salvation, and eternal life. Our greatest calling is to receive his gift.”
Ummm…yes.
ALL THE PRAISE HAND EMOJIES, IN ALL CAPS, IN BOLD, WITH MANY EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!
She’s speaking truth straight to my heart, right there. You?
My highlighter was B-U-S-Y and nearly broken, used with exuberance in all the pages between these quotes. So much wisdom and grace given to any reader that chooses to read this book. I’ve fallen victim myself to too many yeses for others, and not enough for myself.
The quintessential caretaker and people pleaser, I’m constantly worried about letting others down. Fearful of disappointing them. Worried they’ll no longer like me, if I don’t say yes.
I’ve been on this journey a while now, learning to say yes, but only to the right ones. I’m making some progress, but still stuck in some places. For example, learning how to say no to something I really want to do, when it may not fit in my schedule or be the best for my family. I’m learning this the hard way (and it seems to be taking me a long time). I’m an exuberant and passionate person that loves to say yes to ALL THE FUN THINGS THAT EXCITE ME.
Problem is, a lot of things excite me. A lot of things fall in the column of “Things I’m Passionate About”. But…
…but I just don’t have time for it all.
One of the most impactful lessons of this book was Alli’s “Five F’s of Decision Making”. I recently started using this before saying yes to ALL THE THINGS THAT EXCITE ME, and it is working. Baby steps, y’all. And what better way to start, than with her five easy steps. I’m even going back to some things I already said yes to, and am respectfully changing my yes to either a ‘no’ or a ‘not yet’. It is so incredibly freeing…and wonderful balm for my anxiety. Because YOU GUYS…
…I worry about so much. I feel anxious about so many things, including making the right decision. My decision making process about saying ‘yes’ to things, tends to look something like this…anyone else?
Goodness. This book has helped calm my overactive mind. And this is good for everyone involved.
Sometimes, we just need a little help weeding through our priorities and eliminating the ‘shoulds’ in our lives and schedules, so we can live a life according to our spiritual calling. One that matters. One that leaves us full of light, instead of drained of life.
Alli’s book is a perfect guide in helping you do just that.
