Alright. The gig is up. I’m not really the four time Olympian, 2012 gold medal wearing, water polo player, Heather Petri. Nope. Hard to believe, I know. But that’s not me. She exists. She’s just a different Heather Petri. And we lead very different lives.
Can you see me as a water polo player? I’m not even remotely close to being athletic enough to even think about it. Rhythmic Gymnastics? Maybe. But Water Polo? Definitely not. Those who know me see how absolutely preposterous the idea is of me playing anything in the water.
Here’s the deal. I love the water. I do. I love oceans and pools, rivers and lakes. But I do not love swimming in them. First of all, swimming is constant movement. So there’s the first problem. Second, I have to throw and pass the ball, while swimming? Seriously? This is a rescue waiting to happen.
You put me in the water and one of two things will happen. I will get out. Or, I will ask for a floatie and pina colada. Period. I like to relax in the water. Chill. Be at piece with it. Conquer it? Not so much. I do have an extra jelly ring around my waste from all of the cupcakes and donuts that may provide extra buoyancy. But it would also create some serious drag and that would slow me down quite a bit. So that won’t work.
I am a supporter of the Olympics and the Water Polo team though. And I did send a congrats, ‘from one Heather Petri to another’, on her fan page. I also paid homage to the team and their recent gold medal by having an Olympic Margarita. See how I support the red, white and blue? Pretty awesome, isn’t it?
I do what I can.
