In nine days, my nine year old turns 10. Â It wasn’t that long ago I was snuggling this little chubby cheeked baby and teaching him the alphabet. Â Now here we are, 10 years later and I’m teaching him about the importance of deodorant and why farting in public just isn’t that funny. Â Well, okay…it is funny, when he does it – but it just isn’t appropriate!
Oh how things have changed in ten years. Â For example, the other night, while N is taking a shower, he says…
N: Mommy. Â Last night I had an intermission.
Me: An intermission?
N: Yeah, you know. Â Where your penis fills with blood and sticks straight out?
Me: Ohhhhhh. (stifling a giggle) You mean an erection?
N: Oh. Yeah.
Me: Â That’s normal N. Â That’s part of being a boy.
N: Yeah. Â I know, cuz I’m going through puberty.
Now you are probably thinking, ‘Oh, just wait until the sex talk’. Â Ha. Â Oh no, we’ve already had that. Â That was so much hilarity, I’m saving it for another post. Â Trust me, you’ll want to read that one.
Anyhoo, see what I’m saying? Â Gone is the sweet smelling, cherub faced infant. Â Hello to the sour pit smelling, poop talking, fart fanatic. Â How did we get here so fast? Â And where has my little boy gone?
While my N may not be into snuggling like he used to and 90%  of the time he smells of a musty mix between outdoors and sweat – he’s still my lovable boy.  He still turns to me when lonely or sad.  He still turns to me when hurt and holding back tears while trying to be tough.  He still looks to me for guidance and help.  But I am counting the blessings of these days, and holding them close to my heart…
…because before I know it, another 10 years will have passed.

I love that pic of N, he is adorable even if he is talking about erections, poop etc 🙂
