Call it coincidence, superstition or foresight. An accident or an intention. In any case, I call it a whisper from God.
About a week or two ago, I saw a dragonfly. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I do remember thinking that it had been quite a while since I had seen one. Then a day or so later, I saw another. A day or two passed and I saw another. And another. I didn’t see them all in one spot, but rather I saw them in different places and locations. What was with the sudden influx of these lovely creatures that seem to magically float and flutter in the sky?
Today, we were working in the back yard and Noah found not one or two, but four frogs that were trapped in a spot in our yard. We were right in the middle of a long list of chores, but we stopped working while we rescued these four frogs. I paused after getting them all to safety. Similar to the dragonfly, I hadn’t seen a frog in a really long time. But a couple of days ago, there sat a frog one of my flower beds. And today, we saw four more.
Dragonflies and Frogs. This got me thinking. With the sudden and extreme increase in sightings of these new friends, there must be some meaning I am to take from it.
Did you know that the dragonfly symbolizes change in perspective, the self realization of the deeper meaning in life? Did you know that a dragonfly has incredible agility – it can hover like a helicopter, fly backwards like a hummingbird and fly straight up or down and from side to side? And it does it all in total grace. And to many, the dragonfly is a symbol of living in the the moment. Kind of like what we did today. Stopping to rescue some frogs.
Interestingly enough, frogs also have meaning to many. They are thought to symbolize creativity and transformation, fertility and forward thinking. This is fascinating to me. That in a matter of a week or two, I’ve encountered multiple interactions with dragonflies and frogs.
Fascinating because shortly after I started seeing the dragonflies, I had more self realization and decided to change my perspective (like a dragonfly). I also experienced more self realization about wanting to plug into my creative side (like a frog).
See? Fascinating.
There are those who may think I’m being silly and making a big ‘to do’ about seeing a few insects and amphibians, but I would challenge them on that. From where I stand, these are whispers from God. Reminding me to pay attention. Asking me to listen. And kindly telling me to follow my heart and accept his guidance.
Slow down. Listen. Shhhh….can you hear it? God’s whispers?
I do. And they couldn’t be sweeter.

You’re right Heather. God is always talking to us . . . whispering, if you will. We just have to be listening. Great post!
